In late June, the Illinois Access to Justice Commission completed their annual review of the forms that comprise the Financial Affidavit, which is required in divorce, as well as many other family law cases. To learn more about the importance of financial disclosures in the divorce process, read our article from last fall. The Access to Justice Commission works to help the legal system "deliver outcomes that are fair and accessible to all court users, particularly those who are low-income and vulnerable." With regard to the updated Financial Affidavit forms, the Commission made its updates with the goal of making them easier to understand and fill out for the average user. You can read more about the Commission's priorities here.Use of the old forms should be discontinued immediately. The updated forms may be found here. Contact our family law attorneys today with any questions about the process.
