Technology-Assisted Harassment in Illinois

Rapid developments in the world of technology have created new ways for abusers to harass their victims. Sometimes the law struggles to keep up with these changes, but there are ways to target technology-assisted harassment within the existing legal framework. Emergency Orders of Protection and Orders of Protection have long existed, but knowing specific language to use in a Petition will help ensure that you receive the results you want when seeking relief from technology-assisted harassment (including revenge porn, social media harassment, harassment via phone/text. Lawyers should familiarize themselves with the specific language to include in Petitions for Orders of Protection, to assist clients in obtaining the relief they seek.

Any professional who is interested in learning more about protecting victims from technology-assisted abuse is invited to attend an upcoming seminar on the topic, on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-4 pm at the John Marshall Law School at 315 S. Plymouth Ct. downtown. The panel will include Olivia St. Clair Long, Principal of O. Long Law, LLC, as well as Garson Fischer, Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Appeals Division, Office of the Illinois Attorney General, and Raiford Palmer, of Sullivan Taylor, Gumina and Palmer, PC.
